Hi,
Recently put a query about cutting 39mm square Tasmanian Mrytle in the Scrollsaw section. Thought I'd post my result here as it's a clock, albeit only a clock insert.
It's about 200mm high finished with Rustins Danish Oil. No problems with the cutting, No. 5 Skiptooth using a WMS.
Was pleased with the result but would like to source clock inserts that require a hole quite a bit smaller than the clock face surround - not much (any) room for error otherwise!!

G'day Bob,
What size Face is your preference, I use a large quantity of Inserts and understand your request perfectly.
If you let me know the dial size you are after I can probably send you some suppliers and the diameters of the hole/face differences.
I have just purchased some 85mm ones that only need 76mm hole, so there is a bit of room for mistakes.

Thank you Andrew, I'm OK with the larger sizes - 73mm+ - it's the smaller ones, say 24mm to 40ish.

Thanks again,
Bob H.

G'day bob,
Sorry about the delay getting back, I have found the small fit-ups from these guys pretty good, still not much roon to move but if you have a small file some extra movement can be gained if you file or remove 1 lug.:o
If you contact them they will be happy to give you the tolerances of their fit-ups.

http://www.woodworkingparts.com/

have dealt with them for small fit-ups and they are fast and efficient.
payment is no trouble either.

It's lovely, reminds me of the stand my Grandad hung his watch on. He got it from India in the first world war.

I love your clock Bob... Nice design and well made:2tsup::2tsup:

You mentioned small insert clocks.... I usually source mine in Australia from either

Carrols www.cws.au.com (http://www.cws.au.com)

or J Knowles

www.jknowles.com.au (http://www.jknowles.com.au)

Plenty of detail on these sites about the size hole you need especially the last one.

Both these people are really great and provide excellent service

Others I have used include

http://gpwoodturning.yahoostore.com.au

and of course

www.carbatec.com (http://www.carbatec.com)

Most of these suppliers exhibit at the wood shows, so the next time the WWWS in Perth, stock up and save the postage!

(I am not sure what Timbercon in Perth have)

If you are doing a lot of clocks, you may like to try this tip... I found for one size of clock I use, I always had a loose fit with available forstner bits so I put the forstner bit in a metal lathe and reduced its size a little and now I end up with a good fit every time!
