Three dimensional cutting - clock.

Hi,
Recently put a query about cutting 39mm square Tasmanian Mrytle in the Scrollsaw section. Thought I'd post my result here as it's a clock, albeit only a clock insert.
It's about 200mm high finished with Rustins Danish Oil. No problems with the cutting, No. 5 Skiptooth using a WMS.
Was pleased with the result but would like to source clock inserts that require a hole quite a bit smaller than the clock face surround - not much (any) room for error otherwise!!

G'day Bob,
What size Face is your preference, I use a large quantity of Inserts and understand your request perfectly.
If you let me know the dial size you are after I can probably send you some suppliers and the diameters of the hole/face differences.
I have just purchased some 85mm ones that only need 76mm hole, so there is a bit of room for mistakes.

Thank you Andrew, I'm OK with the larger sizes - 73mm+ - it's the smaller ones, say 24mm to 40ish.

Sorry about the delay getting back, I have found the small fit-ups from these guys pretty good, still not much roon to move but if you have a small file some extra movement can be gained if you file or remove 1 lug.:o
If you contact them they will be happy to give you the tolerances of their fit-ups.

You mentioned small insert clocks.... I usually source mine in Australia from either

If you are doing a lot of clocks, you may like to try this tip... I found for one size of clock I use, I always had a loose fit with available forstner bits so I put the forstner bit in a metal lathe and reduced its size a little and now I end up with a good fit every time!
