Hello all and Happy New Year!

I love making boxes and thought it was time to come out of the shadows and show some of my work, so here goes.

Welcome Vinman.

A couple of lovely boxes, we would like to learn the dimensions, and timbers used, and if you have any WIP pics.

Hello jow104. The first box is made of German oak that a friend gave to me. It came from packing timber for a large machine shipped here to the U.S. He gave me four pieces measuring 2.5" x 9" x 8'. The top is curly maple and bubinga.

The second box is mahogany that was given to me by a chilhood friend who used my Les Paul to trace and make a guitar. That was over 30 years ago. When he found out I was into woodworking, he told me he still had a plank and asked if I wanted it. The top is quilted maple with gabon ebony and purpleheart in the frame.

Oops, forgot the dimensions. Both boxes are approximately 4" x 7" x 10".

Does WIP = work in progress? If so, I don't have any and will have to do that on my next one.

Hi Vinman,

Beautiful boxes there, just superb. Just love that quilted Maple lid.

A lot of work in all those little boxes inside too. I'm impressed. Well done.

Thanks for sharing.

Cheers

Really nice work. :2tsup: What did you use to bring out the figure in the quilted maple?

Hi Cisco. The quilted maple was finished first with boiled linseed oil to bring up the grain figure, followed by 6 coats of urethane.
