a mate from swan hill just rang to tell me he's just cut down the biggest she oak tree he's seen.He was wondering if there is any one in his area that was interested in 1 buying the log from him
2 milling it for him
3 any other ideas?
the but log is 3 mtrs long and 1100mm through .he doesnt know the exact spieces and it sounds like a very large she oak can or does any know what type it is? i've never milled one so i wouldn't know if the timber is well regarded in any way. Or does he just put it to fire wood? (sacriledge i know)

Depends on what type. If it is rose sheoak it would be fine grained red/brown with darker lace grain to it, lovely stuff and worth the trouble.

thats the prob he hasn't been able to identify it properly yet. he's only just moved to swanhill. like alot of tree loppers they can cut them down but most of the time they dont care what they are. i just thought the size of the tree might give an indication of the type, anyway what are the uses of sheoak?
