My 1st try at some segmented work:D
Just cut up some scraps, didnt want to use nice wood for a first go at segmented work.
Turned out ok I suppose:?, did make one mistake tho, I made the second from top ring a tad to small as a result the rim is only held by about 1~2mm of wood/glue.

Size is 150mm(6") high by 240mm(9 1/2")in dia thickness is 6~8mm(1/4"~5/16th) throughout. Wood is radiarta pine(obviously)glue is low viscosity epoxy with pine sanding dust mixed in.

Nice work Harry, good clean gluelines there. Not so sure about the shape though, reminds me of my Pops potty  :U

Not bad for a first attempt. Vertical joints line up ok. Seems to be some glue seepage on the end grain? I find exterior grade aquadhere good, it sets quickly, dries hard and no mixing or waste. Good job.

What Scooter said. :)

I'd be proud to have it come off my lathe...

Thanks guys!

Yep PP there was a bit of seepage on the endgrain, I was quite surprised with the glue up as no clamps were used just rubbed the joins.
The old makita drop saw did well, set at the factory 15° locked position there was only about 1/2 a mil between two glued up half circles, a quick touch on the disc sander was all they needed.

Harry, for your first segmented turning you did a great job.
You're saw works well, always difficult to get perfect half segmented rings. :2tsup:

ss_11000, next one, well I got a sizable heap of jarrah offcuts left from the kitchen bench tops. Im thinking of laminating up some of the segments to create some nice geometric patterns.

Careful Harry, these segmented things can become a little addictive, particularly when you start to research what is possible with a little patience. A great way to utilise all those little and bits & pieces which are too precious to throw out.

Very nice - looking forward to a WIP on #2.
