Went to the specialist today. Thought I was finally out of the boot but no. I have to wear it till the end of Feb.

How long does a broken fibula take to heal......

Note to self... Slow down and Stop rebreaking it.....:C

David I was told 16 weeks but age, Ostio and calcium has heaps to do with it.
Take some calctrate helped mine heaps noticeable bone growth within 3 weeks or starting to take it and the rest of the leg Ostio improved also.

Dr Walker explained that it needs time for the calcification to rebuild itself if you twist it or stand on it to much it only breaks the links of calcium, (think meringue or waffer which with little pressure crumbles) if you keep crushing it it wont repair).

The guy in the bed next to me who fell off a ladder was told 24 weeks before getting out of bed even but his was a mess.

Plenty of bone growth and can not see the fracture line any more but it still aches. Think he just wants to make sure it is strong enough not to break when I do the crazy things I do. (Motor bike riding)

It is just a pain as it slows me down considerably.

.....:CDon't know David, but I do know that as we get older things don't heal as quickly. Still getting over my wrist/arm that I broke last year in March I think it was. Still limited to what I can do but I am sure it will improve.

Just take care and just do as the doctors tell you. I know it seems ages but it will come around and you will be as good as new. Good luck and keep improving.:2tsup:

i have to say that bikes are fun but can cause so much pain.. i had, i stress i HAD a dirt bike yamaha wr250f.. so much fun until... i came off and snapped my ACL in my right knee.. worst part was, me and my mates were about 1/4 of the way into a 60km loop plus the ride home... and ofcourse being mates they didn't want to cut the ride short so i followed slowly.. the worst part was my bike was kick start only on the right leg.. so everytime i crashed that day( quite a lot) they had to come back and kick start it for me... a long and not much fun day.. 14mths on after a recon and i'm still about 6+ months of trying to throw my leg over a bike... and then i have to talk the other half in to letting me buy one.. that will be the challenge.. hope u get back on both legs soon.

Does ACL stand for A Crucial Ligament?:D Ligaments can take longer than bones to heal I think. Have to stick them down again or something.

Still, its better than a head injury that you never completely recover from. Having done some work with acquired brain injury people, bikes are not something my other half would ever be able to talk me into letting him have.
And I will be telling my son on a fairly regular basis to not even think about it (He's only five, but you gotta start early with some things)

Sorry! Sometimes just overcome with motherly impulse. Will pass soon.

Interestingly apparently we dont really need fibulas.
My sons specialist has discussed using his right fibula to repair his left tibula in a bone graft.

Yes. My specialist said that if it didnt heal then he would remove a couple of cm of it so it didn't hurt any more.:o

Hey its my bone and I want all of it.:~

Maybe you could keep it in the frig for spare parts? Especially if you are going to ride motorcycles again.:D
