The scroll saw crowd will be familiar with this sort of thing.

You can do these on a CNC router too.

Butterfly is 2mm acrylic. Raptor is 7mm ply

Hi Greg,

I would love to do a couple of these :2tsup:, can you give me more info how you got the files what I need and what I need to do etc.

Well a bit of a how to I guess from us learners?

I downloaded a couple of these from CNC Zone but It was all in imperial and to be honest I just lost interest :C.

There is quite a bit of this sort of stuff about, the trouble is that most of it is pretty poorly drawn.

Usually have to spend a bit of time cleaning the DXF up. Typically the slots are not parallel and uniform size.

Once that is done you just scale it to make the slots suit the material you want to use. I don't know how accurately you can do that in Vcarve. I use a cad program.

Use tabs to hold the pieces in place.

I wanted to attach a DXF of the raptor that I have cleaned up but the file size you can upload here is minuscule. A Zip can be 8.5mb on the zone but here it can only be 100kb

I've uploaded it to this link http://web.aanet.com.au/greolt/Raptor7.dxf

This one is scaled for 7mm as it is. Have a play with it.

If you have trouble scaling then sing out.

Greg

Anyone reading this post after some time has passed the link will no longer work. Sorry.
