Thought some may be interested in seeing the end result of the usage of the Golden Ratio program that was developed and posted here a while ago to determine box sizes. (Sort of.......)

Its actual dimensions are 400 x 250 x 50 instead of 400 x 247 x 152. Certainly didn't want or need a higher box nor did I have the stock to suit.

Finger jointed with a Gifkins. Lid is a sliding fit and the lid and bottom panel are veneered UK Oak on ply. The little brackets or dooverlackies holding the tool are deliberately left hand cut to fit the tools as they are hand made in appearance.

English Oak finished thus far with 1 drink of Danish Oil, several to go then a good waxing.

For those wondering, they are bonsai tools.......

Lovely box.

I would however be concerned about storing any steel/iron articles inside because of the oak.
There is an acid that rust steel.

Thanks one and all for the comments. I was well pleased until Jow rained on my parade :)

I must admit that I hadn't factored this into the planning process.

Does anyone have an idea how I can counteract/negate this from happening?:?

Box is well covered in Danish oil and will have a good coat of cabinet wax, tools are routinely cleaned with camelia oil as well, will this be sufficient.?

Going to lose every single one of the brownie points if the present I have given my significant other starts rusting.........:(
