View Full Version : Desperately Looking for Panel Pins

I am building a scale model of a Napoleonic wars ship of the line. The hull planking is fastened to the frames by very small panel pins and my previous source of supply has closed down. Does anyone know where I can get brass, round headed panel pins,0.5 mm diameter and 10 mm long? I am getting desperate.

Float A Boat as mentioned below is a great option. Also try Modeler's Shipyard (www.modelshipyard.com.au) in NSW, they have a fair range of supplies and different brands of nails from Float a Boat - both form the major suppliers, so just a matter of matching what you have.

A lot of people don't use any pins - simply glue as the pins look out of scale anyway and the original nails were wooden. I have heard of people using bamboo and drawplates to make miniature treenails and gluing them into drilled holes.

TK, had already tried Model Shipyard.
Marker, it looks as though Float a Boat have exactly what I want.
Peter, what I am doing is glueing and nailing the planks on. I am leaving the heads of the nails proud so that when I sand down the planking the heads of the nails disappear so they look more to scale
