I'm interested in getting into cnc routing, but not really interested in building a router from scratch. I just don't have the time and could use one very soon on a project.Does anyone know of kits available in Australia ? . The only one I have found is the Cornerstone Kit . Has anyone bought this kit ?? I want something about this size but it must be resonable quality. Appreciate any help , advise:)

You might look at this site: http://www.mechmate.com/index.html
They have a simple design and often offer laser cut parts for the router.
These people used to offer their product in a kit form, don't know if the still do or ship to Australia. http://www.k2cnc.com/

Nothing available in Aus that I know of.

There is one manufacturer of controllers that sell kits of motors and controllers but they are expensive.

What size machine are you thinking about and what do you expect to cut?

If you can tell us this we can make some suggestions.

Greg

EDIT: CAn you provide a link to this Cornerstone Kit so we can see what you're thinking about?

The cornerstone site is very light on detail.

I would need more info on linear rails, screws, bearings. drives, controller, etc to make any sort of informed comment.

I suspect not many of these have been sold or we would have heard more about them. This may be wrong of course.

For a similar sized finished machine look at this link,

http://www.romaxxcnc.com/products.htm#

K2 that was linked to above make some nice routers, dearer though.

Can you give some idea of budget?

Another option might be these Exitech routers from China

http://sh-cnc.en.alibaba.com/product/50054773/200762549/CNC_Router/SHG0404_CNC_ROUTER.html

http://sh-cnc.en.alibaba.com/product/50054773/200767191/CNC_Router/CNC_Router.html

Not great links but you may be able to find the manufacturers site.

I know of several people who have imported these from China and are very happy with the value.

If importing does not scare you then these are worth a look.

There is a fellow up in Queensland that was selling kits on ebay a couple of months back. Sorry I can't find the link but some of you more experienced internet people might be able to jag it.

Greolt,

my budget would be around $2000 to a maximum of $3000 including software etc.Looks like I may have to consider building after all. :~
I bought some plans off solsylva but they use a rail and bearing truck system, cheap and easy to build , but I am thinking linear rails would be a much better option.
Be thankful for any other links , ideas :)

Hi guys, I own one of these routers (their web site is http://www.webshcnc.com/english/index.asp)
I got a 600 x 900 mm tabletop version. They are a bit rough around the edges, but overall pretty good.

They are over the budget though, about $4500 delivered.

The SHM0609 looks about the same size as mine when you build yourself and use good quality parts. Well worth looking at :)

have a look on the CNCZONE, there are a few DIY routers, and they are made very cheep. look for JoeCNC2006 he has the best home made CNC on a shoe string budget
http://www.cnczone.com/forums/showthread.php?t=15139

I can cut any parts on my machine - If Joe is still OK with that,

Thanks salty , I might take you up on the offer. Did you build Joes router ?
I'd be interested in what you would charge me for the parts.
Thanks , Mastercraft
