Gear Ratio?

Hi, just looking to build a belt driven cnc router as some of you already know. I was wanting to know what ratio a belt driven system should be.

I know when using lead screws it is something like 10 - 20 TPI. But I do not see much info on the gear ratio of a belt driven system.


Would a 3:1 gear ratio suffice? Or does it require any sort of reduction?

What is the motor speed and what do you want the bit speed to be??

Better to calculate the machine speed as a result of maximum reliable motor speed and required machine resolution.
