After much searching I finally settled on a Gasweld lathe (https://ishop.gasweld.com.au/ishop/stock/item/580508)which is identical to the grizzly G4015Z so parts should be easy to get.

It covers all the things I think I need and the mill will be used as a drill most of the time as I only have a cheap ($60) one which is not much good.

After having a bit of hands on at the shop, it seems to be very solid.

All I have to do now is to get it from the floor onto the bench.
Man handled it out the trailer to the shed but it is heavy at 150kg.

Give me a pm I use a hydrolic lifter for engines,I may be able to give the unit a lift for you,at my age have to play that way dont need a hernia, just junked my 399 kg bandsaw by myself using the lift to the trailer and away.

Take care

David,

I had one of these, it was quite a handy unit. Made a few little steam engines and miniature pumps etc with it. If I had a bitch with it, it was that the mill did not have a rise and fall. Have fun with it.

I have the same problem, got it from the ute to the workshop OK but the lift from the floor to the benchtop is proving to be a difficult one.
After removing about 35Kgs (saddle, tailstock, chuck), it's still 110Kgs to lift.
Time to invite a few friends over for a beer ...

Bet you can't wait to start using your new toy:2tsup:

I have recently been looking at getting a small metal lathe, mainly for pen making etc., and came across this site:

http://www.mini-lathe.com/Default.htm

Juts in case you haven't found that one I thought I would pass it on, very informative, especially to a novice like me.

That is an excellent site and was very helpful in deciding which lathe I should buy. Another good source of info is the Yahoo groups that deal with small lathes. Worth joining are:

DavidG, this group cater to your particular model (or very similar ones)

Nice one David. I had a look at that one when I last visited Gasweld and it certainly seems solid. Did you get any tooling in the deal?

Ok it is on the bench now.:U
Removed the hydraulic lifter from the trailer and bolted it to the shed floor.
Just made it on to the bench before lifting the roof.

It is in one of those 10'x10' sweat boxes that is the garden store shed.
Rearranging to make some room.
Note to self... Bench needs reinforcing.

Now the degreasing job begins. Everything is coated.
Spraying with wd40 then wiping off.

Put the dead centers in head and tail and moved them together.

They lined up perfectly........ :U That was unexpected.
Still have some oiling etc to do before she will be up and running.
