FWIW while the Proforme does tend to accumulate shavings at the top of the J you can go on turning for a while still and then fairly easily remove them with a stiff brush.
The J shape also gives you varying cuts acc to what's in touch with the wood: something of a planing effect on the long edge and more agressive cutting at the turn.
