Can I ask why would a lathe whether been from a smoke free and pet free affect a lathe? To me this seems like a DUH moment of no need. Am I alone?

Could be, but it seems more like a secret handshake amongst the True Believers. Turn a few lumps of camphor or cedar, and it could just as well have come from a sewage treatment plant.

Concering cigarettte smoke I worked for my late brother repairing vcr's when they came from a smokers house the inside was covered in a yellow haze sometimes so thick it gummed up the heads, so I can imagine it is the same for many other types of machinery
