I don't know where to post this but I thought I would start here.
I am looking for a machine - new or S/H - that produces wood wool used for packing. I have a lot of tree tops that are not millable but the is a great amount of timber in the extended trunk and large branches. If I had such a machine I would be able to get rid of them, without burning them (climate change and all that) and in fact may even get a retun on my time.

I have searched the web for manfactures without success. Considering the diverse interest of the Forum members I thought someone may be able to help.

Hi Whitewood,
I have no idea but perhaps if you contact the CSIRO (http://www.csiro.au/services/ps135.html) they may be able to point you in the right direction.

Cheers

Ummmm.......What's wood wool?.......Is it made from fibre spun from wood? Or is it just wood shavings?:?

Q: how much CO2 does a wood wool machine generate?

Thanks for the CSIRO idea Mike.

Wood wool is thin shavings. It is used among other things as packing around items that can break easily during transit (saves using plastic bubble wrap) and to make filters in some evaporative air cooling systems.

Thanks for the post Ivan.

I had found the Tasmanian site but as Ifeel I would be going into opposition I did not think it appropriate to seek help from them. The UK machines seem to produce a wastethat is only suitable for stuffing soft toys or turning into chip board. I'll make some enquiries from Stramit.

IIRC, the wood wool is/was also called "excelsior." Google of [excelsior wood] produced this and a few other hits: http://www.old-woodworking-tools.com/index/pages/184.htm

Addition of [machine] to the search field brought more narrow results, such as this: http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/203853488/Excelsior_Cutting_Machine_Wood_Wool_.html
