Make a big natural edge bowl...Like side of the log big... I have a big (600mm or so square piece of ironbark) that's just waiting for when I get a stubby:roll:

Get 3 small diameter short logs of different types of wood. Cut the logs on a shallow (20 degree) diagonal into mini slabs about 25 mm thick. Dress to 18 - 20 mm. Glue all full length slabs together in alternate pattern. If you do this right it should give you an oval cross sectioned lump of wood. Trim to shape using BS and turn.

BTW if you do that and win I want 10% of the prize money ! :D:D

Sure can.

While you are at it you can also try alternating the direction of the grain in the mini-slabs although I personally would keep it to a minimum otherwise it can get really busy looking.

OK - stupid and undoable coming right up!

Harry Potter theme - maybe one of the Nimbus 2000 broomsticks.

Slightly more difficult would be a scale version of Hogwarts! But the kids would love it.

Nah, just buy a cheapie from Bunnings and scratch it up a bit. Then tell them you made it from a 3,000 year old bunya pine that you cut down from the national park late one night.:D
At least you'll be noticed.:2tsup:

I like the sound of the nimbus 2000:D

but on a more serious note a series of segmented vases from big to small with equal number segments I think would be a winner or what I have always liked but not yet had a go at is inserting other type of branches into a piece of work i.e vase or bowl. just a thought but the idea from Bobl sounds good.:)

Cheers Justin:drink2:
