I want to collect some green oak logs to mill and need to pick them up in a trailer, my trailer holds 2 tonne and I have an entire tree to collect. Does anyone know roughly how much a cubic metre of green oak weighs?

Thanks in advance

Ralf

Work on around 1.1 tonnes per cubic metre.

Based on your sizes quoted elsewhere. you are talking from around 0.3 ton per metre for a 600mm diameter log up to 0.7 ton per metre for a 900mm diameter log.

Ralf about 6.4 lineal metre's of your 600 diameter log will put you right on the doorstep of your load limit. Given 1100kg per cube and no margin for error. Play it safe and maybe put two 3.0m billets around 600 diameter on and call it quits for that load.

Just in case, if you are having a machine load your trailer, make sure the operator doesn't drop the log onto your trailer. Although most folkes would try not to, but you never know...

Hope it helps

Oh a machine, how much I long for one of those up there - we will have the use of the 3 poin linkage of the tractor - hope to lift one end on then lift other end and push trailer underneath - god help us.
