Some time ago i saw a short vid clip showing and old carpenter making a 90 deg mitre joint. What was unusual about the Joint was the way he used a wedge to drive the joint tighter when he hit the wedge in. It was very impressive.
Has anyone got a link to this vid or any other similar ones. Just an idea but there are a few of these types of short clips around and maybe it would be an idea to have a section under Japanese hand tools for pics of joints and vid clips etc. Anyway just a thought

I haven't seen anything like that.
Have you got the link? I'm always interested in learning new and interesting techniques.

This type of joint used to be in a lot of the old casement winow frames, you know the types with the counter weights.Probably used for expansion in the weather etc.

Nice joint but thats not the joint. In plan view the joint looks just like a 45 degree miter. All the trick stuff is hidden inside the joint. I'll have to do some searching i think. If i can't find it i'll draw one up on cad to show you what it was like.
