LED lights

i want to install LED lights across the back of my ute.

Why? because I want to!

But Id like to put them in a metal channel and then seal the whole thing with something like clear silicone or resin but my Q are would the silicone dull or go off over time, how would I get a flat plane/surface. using silicone and would the casting resin stand up to the rigors of dirt roads and stuff. or would it crack.
There are the standard commercial LED tail lights yes yes I know didnt come down in the last shower of rain (whenever that was) etc etc but I want to use the single smaller units.

These can be got off ebay proboby from China but then surely the commercially sold thgings are also made there

Go to Bunnies and get a tin of fibreglass resin and hardner.
It should take the dirt but don't flex it too much.

What's the ute? Tray or tub?

I'm not sure what you mean by "in a metal channel and seal it", but there's a range of LED's available that recess into a flat surface, or are a pretty shallow surface mount.

Have a look at LED Autolamps (ledautolamps.com) website. Tony has quite a range of LED's, none of which are made in China.

Also, when you swap your indicators for LED's, you'll either need to change your flasher can for an LED compatible one, or ledautolamps do a load resistor so that your indicators flash at the correct rate.
