Hi all, I am looking at various different glues for woodworking and was wondering what are the various strength/durability properties. For example, is hide as strong as say pva? Is urea the same? With so many choices these days it would be nice to have a comparison of what glues have the best bond, and on what type of timbers (e.g. softwoods or hardwoods)

Martin.

Do a search this has been covered time & time again. But it always comes back to this website. They have many case studies on exactly your question..

What Shane said.

There are a number of other factors to consider besides strength, eg gap filling qualities, brittleness and give, working time, self-adhesion, ease of use etc etc. The site gives you most things you'll need to know, and their tech advice service can give you anything else.
