My daughter has purchased a TS astra and has the fog lights to fit into the front bumper.

The wires are in the loom and plug straight in.

Can anyne tell me how to get the headlight switch out of the dash please.

The switch for the foglights is part of the headlight switch and is already there, with the "fog light" picture on it, but wont move. I think it probably has a plastic "bar" to stop it moving. I want to remove the switch and see if i an get the bar off to use it.

I then think i will need to fit the relay or fuse or something and the lights should work.

It appears that all cars have the same wiring loom etc and just needs to be plugged in.

i have removed the storage compartment under the switch biut cant see any help. Levers dont seem to want to just "pop" it out. HELP

Havent been in one so this is only speculation, but;

Looking up from the floor on the fifth pic, with the fuse box or whatever showing, the lower edge of the moulding for the light switch assy and vent has 6 dark lines in it. I would suspect that these are slots in the moulding, and that the section between the first and second breaks on each side form tags that clip the moulding and switch assembly into place. If this is the case, then the entire assembly might be worked free of the padded facia with light pressure applied to the tabs to release the clips, and gentle prying with a screwdrver blade in one of the other slots.

The fog lights should only operate when the parkers or headlights are on, have you tried them under these circumsances, or only with the lights off?

Disclaimer: This is what I why do as an ex mechanic who has done this before. Dont blame me if you screw this up :D

The main panel SHOULD lever out. I would get a nice strong piece of flat steel like a spatula and lay that just under the panel against the dash material. This displaces the pressure you are about to apply.

Using a WIDE screwdriver or scraper place it under the panel edge and GENTLY, OI, I SAID GENTLY, prise it out. Watching that its not distorting as you prise away.

Then you will have the jigger in your hand and we can then pull it apart.

Dont forget to read the disclaimer. :p

Calm, I have just found a manual for your daughters Astra at the local library.

Refering to your 6th pic, with the control knob removed, there are two concealed pin holes at 9 and 3oclock positions. With the switch rotated to the headlight position, they are revealed through the opening in the backing plate. The manual uses two miniture screwdrivers inserted into these holes to release clips built into the mechanism. The switch block can then be pried out of the vent housing panel. I would suggest removing battery negative cable if you have all the coded to restart radio etc. Otherwise, release as above, remove the pins (screwdrivers), and return switch to the OFF position before disconnecting switch from the wiring.

Hope this helps.
