View Full Version : Chisels for Beginners

I'm an absolute turning beginner who has just purchased a lathe and hasn't held a turning chisel since school days - a zillion years ago.
What basic chisels should I purchase to get started learning. I imagine practice would include turning handles, legs, tops (spinning) etc. (any suggestions?) using smallish pieces of soft wood. Can't imagine using any large pieces for sometime.
So for a basic starter kit, how many, what type/profile and which brand of chisels should I consider.
Any advice and comment greatly appreciated.

Here is a collection of posts worth reading.
This is mostly advice to new turners with a bit of extra info about handles & sharpening jigs.
Hang on to this list & go back to it every now & then for a refresher. :2tsup:
