Hello,
I am confused!I sent an inquiry to the bulletin yesterdaybut could see nothing on the board today. Have I done something wrong? I would like to know what to charge for a collapsable basket made of pine, unstained. As a friend of mine would like to buy one and I have no idea what to charge. :confused: Cline

Basicially its Cost of wood & double it, and time yourself with preparation of pattern photocoping costs or if you are lucky and have or can get a cheap second hand copier, and the time it takes to cut the projuct at an reasonable hourly rate have a clock near by to time yourself Good Cutting Bruce

Photocopying? Surely you jest Bruce. This was written on a computer which has a perfectly servicable scanner and printer. :)

Most of my stuff is given away to friends and family, have only sold a few items and they were small cheap things about $15. Pricing is a hard thing to work out, you could follow those rules of timber price, and labour for cutting and finishing etc.. but most of the time you get a price that people just arent going to pay .. most have no idea of the effort that has gone into cutting the work. Im not saying you shouldnt use those methods, but you also need to think 'what would i be happy to pay for this' as long as you arent ripping yourself off and are happy with the money you are getting for it, then thats all that matters. I enjoy getting out on the saw so am not too concerned about the time spent at the saw, but Im not going to sell something like my koala for a $5 profit either :eek: .

Selling an item to a friend would have to be the hardest, you'd have to allow for mates rates. Ask him what he is willing to pay for it and see if its reasonable.

Anyway I think I confused myself with all that, hope you can get some sense out of it :confused:

When doing work for friends, I always ask them to pay what they think it's worth in good red wine. I think we're both more comfortable (and I'm further ahead) than if I put a dollar value on it.
