chisel handle wanted Brisbane

I have a plain edge Titan socket chisel without a handle. I am no turner myself, and was wondering if anyone local (or otherwise) would consider turning me a handle. i am partial to silky oak and actually have some drying that (may) be suitable for the purpose.

Ditto to that carl a good bit of ash or other REAL hardwood:2tsup: and a healthy ferrule :Deach end would be my feelings WWWally

thanks to all for the prompt replies. i appreciate everone's generosity, these forums certainly set a great standard.

i have PM'd funkychicken and will see what we can work out. i was keen on silky oak for the handle, i guess i just can't go past it having a love for it as i do. however my head tells me (as a few pointed out) that some harder natives are probably more suitable, and i will probably go this way.

spotty gum is the abvious choice.

but tallowwood in briliant for handles as it is oily and stays together well. :2tsup:

o yer and if all else fails im happy to do it seing as your just down the road. might be esayer than postage.

The handle has been turned and has received it's first coat of oil. I'll take a photo when it's finished.

I made it to Nicks specification and it fits a socket chisel I have here so hopefully it will fit his.

Oh and it's Ironbark by the way

well here it is. i am very pleased with the finished product, and all the responses i got about this. its excellent and will be a user.

fits ok, needs about 1mm taken from widest part of socket - easily done with sandpaper. better a touch too big than too small!

not bad considering the components were 100km's apart and it couldnt be tested through the process!

Oh well, I did pretty good considering I didn't actually have the chisel to test out the fit.

and after 5 mins of sanding........

there is now 1/16" gap which will close up a bit more when i hammer on the handle - just need to clean the blade up to the high standard that has been set!
