Hi

Anyone out there got any ideas on a suitable caravan or camper trailer suitable for a family of 5 (Him,Her, 12,6 and 2) for a 3 to 6 month trip in Oz.

I like these ones;

because they have an open feeling to them that is missing in most caravans that i have been in, by this i mean some caravans are very closed in when you are in them. Can you get an annex for them and are they good?

Or this type perhaps;

Not interested in this type;

Will be going on unsealed roads but not 4wd roads.

Another idea I had was to have the caravan for me n her and bub and set up a 'bedroom" for the boys on the back tray of the dual cab.

Thoughts, suggestions?

cheers

Dazzler, I am the eldest of three and we travelled as a family in one of those (the top photo) on most school holidays. It was the larger of the jaycos - I think the Jayswan. We had an annex and often took mates along as well and the boys bunked in the annex. With just the family, the brother and I slep on one of the doubles on the end, my sisten on the converted lounge and my parents at the other end.

I think they are fantastic and we will be buying one as soon as the family gets to holidaying age.

not to put you off, but think how well you'll all cope with being inside whatever you decide on if it rains solid for a week.

as a kid the family (mum, dad, me & 2 sisters) travelled extensively in a 5 berth van dragged arround by a trusty 6 cyclinder valiant
it had an annex which, in floor area, was as big as the van

when we were older and no longer went on family hollidays, mum and dad replaced the 5 berth van with a 3 berth job.
My younger sister and I went on a short trip with them once. Never again, sister got to sleep inside while I was outside. It was a real pain having to sleep outside the van — apart from being colder outside the van than inside it was just really inconvienent. So my advice is plan to sleep everyone inside the van and/or annex every night.

for 3 to 6 months, you want the van to be like a small flat so try and avoid the situation where someone has to get out of bed so that you can sit down to breakfast.
