G'day all,

Sorry, yet another tree ID thread to go with all the others going round.

Planted this eucalypt about 15 years ago - was given to me with no idea which it was.

It died in a severe drought a couple of years back and have only got round to looking at it recently.
It remained standing, but has been out in the bush since and it seems to have been munched by a few critters and was fairly cracked.

General shape has a very weeping habit - doesn't seem to grow very big - this one must have been about 10m tall.
Flowers are cream.
Bark quite pale, very fissured and fairly soft.
Wood fairly hard.
Leaves, as can be seen in the pic are quite long and narrow.
Thought the wood would be quite bland - was pleasantly surprised when I tried a piece for a looksee.

First pic is before oiling, 2nd is after one coat of BLO soaked in.

What do you reckon?

Looks like it could be one of the Ironbarks but wouldn't stake my reputation on it.
Also seen a tree refeered to as Mahogany ( a Eucalypt Mahogamy that is) that has a similar look to it.

Very attractive timber and a nice bowl.:2tsup::2tsup::2tsup:

Thanks - pretty sure it's not a callistemon - have a few of them around - the ones I've turned have a lovely dark pinkish wood.

REALLY wild guess (usually steer clear of the euc's) - going by the bark - maybe Swamp Mahogany (http://www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/duke_energy/Eucalyptus_robusta.html)

Nice job on the bowl - came up well!:2tsup:

Thanks Al & Vern,

Bark certainly looks right for Swamp Mahogany - will do some googling along those lines and see what comes up.
