magna TR 93 starter motor

hello all, need some help. got to replace a faulty starter motor on a magna tr 1993. it is a 4cyl 2.6lt efi.... from what i can see it is located under the inlet manifold between the fire wall and engine.. has anyone done this job before or has anyone got a service manual for this car and can help me out with these few pages from it.. thanks for any advice given cheers

Have a PDF manual on disk that I got off ebay for a neighbours car. 140MB, 1350 pages all told. Probably identical to the link above, except that it came in the post rather than down the wire.

For removal, disconnect negative at battery, remove wiring at starter motor, remove two retaining bolts and take out starter motor. For removal reverse procedure.

There are probably 10 pages of diagnostic info if you want to fix existing rather swap it.

Could burn a copy and post it if thats better than downloading (time vs dounloads). PM if I can help, normally around online late arvo to early evening.

thanks heaps... i downloaded the files above, seems pretty straight forward to remove.. just going to have to feel my way through it. thanks for a offer of the cd.. will get back to you if i need it..

you may have better luck working from under the car ...depends on how much room is between the firewall and starter ..its been a while since I worked on one , but normally I go from under rather than above , a socket and extention rod usually do the trick ....my tip is undo the cable/s with the battery disconnected first ....using a ring spanner ....the nuts usually come off easy, if not spray some crc ...move cables out of the way ....undo bottom starter bolt first ....then supporting the unit with one hand ..undo the top bolt with the other ....have it checked before disgarding ....it may just be a faulty solenoid....( thats the smaller cylinder that sits on top of the starter )

note: never completely trust a trolley jack ....place the spare wheel under one of the front wheels as a safety barrier , just in case of failure/movement ...and always chock up the rear end wheels with a brick on either side ....good luck :2tsup:

thanks too all that helped, job went nice and easy..couldn't really see what i was doing but could feel my way.. ended up being quite easy and quick.. the new one went back in even easier..
