Hi
I have some ink stains in some old oak or elm wood that has been in it for years
is there any product that may get some of it out?
thanks

Yes; oxalic acid. Make up a saturated solution and carefully brush it only on the actual ink stain. Dry it rapidly with a hot air gun or hairdryer and then wipe the residual crystals off with a damp cloth.

Repeat again if necessary. When satisfied, neutralise the area with a 25% white vinegar/water solution.

WARNING! Do not sand oxalic-treated and un-neutralised wood as the dust is an extreme irritant.

If you're near the coast, any boatyard should be able to sell you a jar full. Otherwise any restoration shop/suppliers or hardware shop.

oxalic acid is available at Bunnings. Be careful with it - it's quite dangerous! make sure to avoid fumes, guard you fingers etc. apply with a cotton bud to keep within the ink stain. good luck!
