Narcissistic Personality Disorder

Has anyone out there been diagnosed with or known someone with Narcissistic Personality Disorder. I have someone close to me whose behaviour fits the criteria with a precision that is frightening. It hasn't been officially diagnosed.

Was going to say that the criteria fits most politicians but we are not allowed to get political on here..........

I note in the link, expressions such as "weasel words" and "citation needed." These tend to reduce credibility. Also, the words "disorder" and "addiction" have acquired excess baggage in recent times. Thus, the definition of "normal" is getting tighter and tighter. I've encountered very few "normal" folks, and most of them were dull as dishwater. In a similar vein, a renowned psychiatrist (can't remember the name) has been quoted (more or less from memory), "There seems to be a cottage industry dedicated to diagnosing everyone with autism or Asperger syndrome." These sentiments seem to have gained prominence along with release of the movie "Rainman."

It seems to me, that almost any over-achiever could be accused of having a "disorder" of some sort, especially some of the greatest minds of the past few centuries or more. Granted, some "disorders" can inhibit functioning or lead to anti-social behaviours; these are real problems demanding treatment or counselling. For the rest of us, vive la difference.

Wow! I just read the Wikipedia link. Do you know if you take the first letter of each of the symptons and then put them together it spells Belinda Neil? Backwards it spells Paul Keating. Awesome!

I did a course (http://www.bookworm.com.au/shop/scditem.asp?ProdID=12915) on the weekend about the mind and how it works. It was very interesting; the premise from his school of pschyology is that our personalities are more than just the one entity. They call them sub personalities and we each have one for different aspects of our lives (ie you behave differently at work than at home, differently with mates than with parents)
The narcississtic subpersonality (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subpersonality) would fit in with the description in wikipedia.
They just need to become aware of their behavior and to heal some old wounds that can lead to this tyoe of thing. (ie constantlt needing praise is a sign that something went wrong in earlier life)
