Just trying to make a Z axis its not a easy job especially when you are too cheap to buy the proper components

Are there any easy Z axis's out there that use the skate bearings and dont require 100% precision? design made out of steel if possible :)

Just finally getting my machine done and having problems with what to do with the Z Axis.

Or does someone happen to have a Z axis lying around I can buy/have till I get mine up and running and then I can make my own.

PS: Finally saw my machine moving on the weekend :U (only X but Y will be moving by this weekend)

Also one more thing I wanted to ask, whats the best way to clamp open timing belts?

The only thing I can think of is the Joe2006 Z axis design.

It uses skate bearings in a simple assembly using a U bolt. It runs on a round shaft, pipe in their case.

It is fairly large but I am sure using steel instead of MDF it could be reduced quite a bit.

Have a look on the CNCzone.
