I'm in northern suburbs of melbourne and was wondering if anyone had a well priced supplier of Vic ash/ Tas Oak.

I am going to build a kitchen island out of it and I need some posts and planks in the above stuff

cheers

I just came across this site which seems to have some in stock "Eucalyptus regnans" Mountain ash
http://www.bowerbirdtimber.com/timbers/species.htm

They are probably an 1hr away for me which is okay with a trailer. I think i'll give them a call and see if i can go out and pick what i like. Must ask the price first.

You could try Mark Garner of Garnerwood.
He did have some very reasonably priced when I was last there! And a lot of very interesting pieces of unusual timbers as well.
this is a quote from his website:
www.garnerwood.com.au
"Garnerwood is based in Bundoora in the northeastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. We specialise in salvaging urban forest tree logs in order to produce environmentally friendly and sustainable timbers

Mobile: 0412 299 760

I have no connection or interest etc.

There is a vast difference between Tas Oak (the real stuff) and Vic or Mountain Ash. Same botanical name but different animals.:D

We buy all ours from Sturrock Timbers in Dandenong.

STURROCK 9768 2422

The largest thickness you will be able to buy that is KD is 2" thick so you will have to laminate to get bigger for legs.

Try here http://www.australianrecycledtimber.com/ in Cambellfield. Not sure on prices though.
