I'll start,

My interest goes back a long way, mainly as a player. Ive worked in bamboo, aluminium, PVC and timber. Some piccies. Bamboo is really nice to work work and very stable if properly prepared. PVC is terrific to work with as its stable and cheap enough to make mistakes on. As per the previous thread Im still getting going on timber,

Here is a Drone Flute I am working on for a very special customer and friend. The main body is Honduran Mahogany, plantation grown in Mexico with purple heart accents and Figured maple end caps. It will be tuned in D4m and has a bore diameter of 1" There is a void near the block filled with Sacred native quarried Pipe Stone from Miniesota. This wood was recently given to me in America by another flute maker. I wouldn't usually use these woods as the forests are so highly over logged, but I have been itching to try these timbers for ages. Honduran Mahogany is very nice indeed, I am more attracted to peruvian Walnut for toneality which I also have a few flutes commoin along in including a nice D Drone for myself.

There is also a highly figured Queensland Maple Drone Flute in F, with NSW Rosewood end caps and Maple blocks which is now sold, that I cut out of plantation grown fork slabs I got from a band saw mill that I often source timber from on the Sunshine Coast called D&L Kirby Fine Timber, www.kirbyfinetimber.com (http://www.kirbyfinetimber.com) they specialise in supplying timber to the luthiers. Such as Q Maple , Bunya, Silver Ash, Silver Quon Diong, Australian Red Cedar, etc Dave is really nice and helpful.

The other pics are my Stand at the Mind Body Spirit Festival in Sydney this year. Notice the Maple Flute there displayed with another, great sounding wood Queensland Maple. Also check out my 2 matching White Cedar display stand slabs that 80 mm thick and fit nicely on a 900 x 900 table (very heeeeeaaavy:o) believe it or not I salvaged them, they were being thrown out, I can't tell you where though - thats my secret.:U

Hey Sebastian56, hows your flutes comming along be interested to see this thread continue. I saw a old post in the timber swap of someone offering this years old Birds Eye Huon Pine rether huge lump of timber it was, noticed you were first to PM. Did you get it, guess you'd never part with any but if you will you know I'd have some. I post later with some pics of my latest flutes

Hi Matt,

I didnt get the Houn Pine, outta my range :( I do have some interesting sycamore though. Getting to the shed is a bit of a challenge at the moment.

The Instrument guys are having a comp to make an instrument in 2 months, I'll see if I can get into the shed in the next cuppla weeks.
