G'day all,

I entered some pieces in the Woodcraft Guild of the ACT exhibition, held in conjunction with the Canberra Timber and Working with Wood Show. Had some luck and managed a first, second and third in the Woodturning - decorative category.

I would like to congratulate the Woodcraft Guild ACT for a wonderful exhibition, attracting many truly fantastic entries across all categories.

Here are some pics of my entries

Really excellent work Fedo. I saw the exhibition and it was great. I have been in Canberra for four years now. Every time I see the exhibition at the show I think the work is getting better. There were some really fine pieces of furniture as well as turned stuff.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for your very kind words. Two of the entries were experimental first attempts, I enjoyed the experience and the result.

Steve McM - I have been a guild member for nearly ten years now and have watched the exhibition grow and improve each year. This year's exhibition was considered by many guild members to be the best so far, based on the very high standard of entries received in all categories and I must say I agree.

Yeah, but that's just the wobbly walnut one - he's still keeping very quiet about how he did the fantastic pierced piece that rightly won 1st prize. The judges made particularly complimentary comments about how crisp and clean the pierced holes were, as part of an outstandingly high standard of finish.

And as for the giant thingy which looks like a huddle of aliens with their bums pointing outwards, all he will say about that is that it involved a bloody lot of fiddly work. Those of you who've only seen the photo may not realise that The Thing stands about three feet high (by the old way of telling time) and has been completely hollowed out, as well as shaped. The spiny antenna on the top is actually the lid.

His (green with envy) fellow turners at the ACT Woodcraft Guild have decided Fredo has far too much time on his hands, and will have to be put to work teaching novices or something to keep him from getting too far ahead of the rest of us - he's even got Richard Raffan looking over his shoulder! :U

The first one looks like one of Lindsay Dunn's 'lattice bowls'.

Done with a die cutter or trimmer type router & an indexing head.

Vermec have the gear to do this sort of work.
