If you're looking for some 0000 steel wool for finishing your latest project, don't bother going to Bunnies for it.

They no longer stock anything finer than that steel "rope" that you use for scouring pots.

So where do you get it from??

Well I just picked some up from Paul's in the CBD, but as you are in Perth that's not much use to you ;)

You may have luck with Mitre 10 or Thrifty Link.

The Thrifty Link in the City has 000 grade at least.

I noticed an ad in the April Australian Woodworker advertising some 0000 steel wool, but I forget to bring it with me to tell you the website. So if you have that issue then look for the ad if you cant get it in your area.

Hey Brudda

Pauls is located in Perth so maybe the Perth sources were appropriate. :D :D :D

Makit hardware stocks it as well - at least in Northam they do.....not sure about the big smoke.

I just brought some 0000 wool at Bunnings Frankston. I guess it depends where you go as to what they stock

Bunnings have different levels of stores i.e. small medium and large. Ranges and stock is govened by store rating hence different items will be available in various locations.

Are Scotch Brite Pads available there? I've pretty much given up on steel wool in any grade and use the scotch brite pads instead. They seem to last much longer and don't leave behind any residue like steel wool does.

Those specialist paint stores often stock it. At least mine does, up 000 grade anyway.

Are you finnishing on a lathe or by hand (french polishing or the like) I m interested in using scouring pads....

I use them for finishing by hand on flatwork. I have used the scouring pads in a pinch. They are not as abrasive as the scotch brite finishing pads and they don't last quite as long but are also much cheaper.
