Ad de Crom 16th September 2008, 05:15 AM Had a nice left over piece of birch of my last table lamp, just fine for a lidded bowl.
Nice stuff for turning, and keep myself busy for a few days.
The diameter 170mm, total height including the finial 148mm, everything conform the design. The lid fits with a soft plop. As usual finished with two layers Glitsa, and polished by hand, after a slight sanding. Oh the birch was pretty dry.
Cheers. Ad :)

The knob, or finial, is made of Panga Panga. East-African hardwood, familiar with Wenge. Got it from my fishingmate :D. So sometimes instead of catching fish......))))
Ad :) Thanks!!

Do you call that "spalted birch"? I have a lot of what we call spalted birch and some of it looks like yours.

Thank you Oldiephred, it doesn't matter how you call it, box or bowl, guess it depends on the size of the object, small is more a box, big is a bowl :D
I turned a lot of birch, some are really white, this is what they call spalted birch.
I found it in the forest. Anyway great stuff for turnings.
