Just wondering are there any major or minor (performance) downside or upside of using plane+thicknesses combo and downside or upside of having them separately?
Does the combo do just as a good job compares to the separate machines?

cheers

Combo machines are generally a compromise on the single/stand alone machines. This could be the width of thicknesser cut or length of jointer table, etc. However this would only be an issue if the specs of the machine are not up to what you want to use it for.

The only other possible downside is if the machine needs to be "reconfigured" to use one of the other functions (i.e. wasted time and possible need for recalibration).
