I turned this a few years ago and just never got around to finishing it. I had thought of making a pocket watch with it but never could find a clock works that would fit in it. The wood is bird's eye maple and it is just flat out gorgeous and I want to make something really nice out of it but I don't have a clue and thought you folks could help me decide!
Here's a couple pix of it.

Can you post the dimensions of it?
Gorgeous wood, I don't blame you for wanting to use it for something nice. :)

OOps, never thought about the dimensions guys!
It's 4 3/4" diameter and 1 1/4" thick when both pieces are put together. The rim on the top is 3/16" wide and the top is hollowed out to a hair shy of a 1/2" deep. The bottom is also a tad shy of 1/2" deep and it has a 3/32" wide lip that fits inside the rim on the top. The main inside cavity of the bottom is 3 1/2" diameter. This was turned from a solid piece of wood and after it was done I made a very light corresponding witness mark on each piece to keep the grain oriented.
I surely appreciate any help you can give with this!!!!

Michael,
I agree it is a fine piece of wood!! Maybe you could turn it into one of those "Clamshell Boxes". I do not know what the hinge would be like (though it may not need one).
Where abouts are you in the panhandle? I am on Lake Seminole GA, about 60 miles above Tallahassee.
Cheers,

Papa

Lmao Ed!!!!
I was thinking I could maybe use some of those barrel hinges to join the two pieces together but they'd have to be super small, like 1/8" or maybe even smaller and I doubt they come that small!

They sell hinges at Craft Supplies USA (Woodturner's Catalog) that slip into a small kerf that is cut with a saw blade on a Dremel Tool. They might not be strong enough for just one to hold it, but you might put a couple sidebyside.
