I'm starting to look at all the Mach3 settings, and trying to get my head around it all. Looking at the 'Step per' settings, can someone confirm that I'm on the right track with my calcs.

I'm using the Xylotex box, so I believe it's running in 1/8 step and I should have 1600 steps per rev.

I'll be setting Mach3 up for metric (mm), but am using Imperial allthread for leadscrews. So, 1/2 BSW is 12TPI, which means 1/12" pitch, or 0.083" per rev. I need to express this as mm, so 0.083/.03937 = 2.1667mm per rev.

Therefore my steps per should be 1600/2.1667 = 738.45.

Is that right? or have I got it all back-to-front and upside-down.

Chris I actually get 755.9055

You are on the right track but missed a keystroke somewhere.:)

:) Thanks Greg. Don't know what I did there, had everything right....but got the wrong answer. :- Your calc is correct. But at least I got the theory correct, I'll just have to triple check instead of double.

Steps/Inch: 200 x 8 x12 = 19200
Steps/mm : (200 x 8 x 12)/25.4 = 755.90551181102362204724409448819

Paste full value in Mach3 'Step/unit' text boix.

Cheers:2tsup:

Thanks Khalid, it's certainly easier to recognise the calc when you put it in that form.

I would query why though, you would input all the resulting decimals into mach3. I cannot conceive that the allthread is that accurate, and I had assumed that there would be some sort of final correction factor that got fed in to the settings somewhere.

Mind you, I'm currently in a state of imformation overload. :D

Thanks Chris, Leave the screw tolerances for now.. Do the Math and put the exact values in Mach3...When Mach3 having no trouble for such a long values!!!.. Then why not we go to more accuracy;) :D
