I guess the first question is how big is ur trailer. There are a couple of threads I put up(one from 8 sept, the other about 24 Aug---- current side projects). Try looking thru those and see if this is what u had in mind. There is a pic of a fold out camper tent mounted to a 6 x 4. Same base will suit 7 x 5 .

How about some fotos of ur trailer.

Here is mine, I built it at the begining of the year.
http://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=65272

Only trouble is, I finaly got what i want & I have to sell it. I am too crippled to use it.
On;y used it two times, & it tows like a dream, is huge when set up, sleep 8 easy.

I have also built a Drifter style kitchen & storage drawer system for it & am just putting on the finish.

I honestly think I will woos up as I see it being towed out the gate. The right thing to do is not always so easy.

okay on another tak...

I posted down in Caravans that Im thinking of doing the same... now Ive almost completed the rebuild of the stupid pathetic pommy camper I bought during my most depressed era recently :doh: actually its turning out pretty good :2tsup: Ben and Tiffany (son-in-law and daughter) reckon they will buy it off me when its completed which is also pretty good!! :;

Anyway... Im hoping to go just a wee bit further with mine... AND Im hoping to make some additions so its EASY to setup wherever by ONE person and therefore doing away with having to have someone along just to set it up

So Im thinking something along the lines of those rear window lifters in cars only bigger for the top... and the tent thingy...

Major hurdle Ive found is the damned tent!! Now Ive lifted the camper something like 10in further off the ground I cant friggin reach the top to connect the friggin things this aside from having to be arney swazenaga to actually man handle the thing! :~

So... IM WONDERING... are there any PLANS on the net that anyone has seen? or do you any of you do plans? :U

Ive sorta given up trying to get the damned things together cant work them out Im afraid... Im fine with the trailer setup itself have the steel for the base and sides also the RHS for the subframe and am picking up the axle springs and hubs next week so that parts all good its just the how to of the friggin tent thats got me!...

Although I think it would be easier to just buy a second hand one and adapt it as Ive done with this one I have this itch you see... call it a creative itch cause I do and since the woodworking itch is STILL avoiding me I may as well weld something eh! :2tsup:

As things are now ticking along nicely around here and Ive got some months up my sleeve before I decide on the coach idea I may as well get something built eh?... yeah yeah two acres of OVERGROWN yard a deck to build a verandah to make a house to sort yarda yarda boring!!! I need to be creative!!!

Soooo plans??? Anyone????

Turnerboy, I'm doing the exact same thing at the moment. I have a 7x4 box trailer which I use quite regularily and have bought a camper tent to sit on top. The problem is that camper tent requires a height of 1100 mm - 1800 mm and my trailer is only 860 mm high.

I have worked out that all I need is four of sidewinder jacks (http://www.motorsm.com/AUS/caravans/used/display.asp?aid=2415) to raise up the trailer to the necessary height.

My next camping trip is in January and won't be starting work on the trailer until mid December but I'll make sure I post pictures of the progress.

Suggestion for Denim.

U mentioned a height range of between 1100 - 1800. If u can get away with 1100 high, perhaps building up the sides of ur box trailer to suit. Make it bolt on? (easily removed).

The extra trailer height comes in useful when packing for the trip.

pics may help on this one. See a lot of different camper configurations in the workshop. The place I work for makes and repairs camper tops (the tent bit).

Yeah, that was an option also but have decided to go with the jacks because they will be easier to store.

Thanks for the suggestion though. :2tsup:

There's material in the following on building CTs but IIRC it's mainly about the trailer:

Rivers The Camper trailer Book
http://www.campertrailers.org/tech_tips.htm and the associated Yahoo group
Also take a look at www.exploreoz.com.au (http://www.exploreoz.com.au)

It appears that mostly folk build the trailer but buy the tent or have it made by a pro.

any canvas place will make up teh tent no problems just take tehm teh trailer adn tell them what u want.

either do that or buy a industrial sewing macine and get to work.

Yes, but you have to know what you want.

There's a bit more to a folding tent than knocking up a hay shed.
