Would be easier to judge if the pic was up the right way

Overall the shape is quite good, stem could be a bit slimmer, not so sure about that paint work though

G'day Toni, long time no chat! :)

I like the form of the bowl and the colouring is certainly different. A full set of 'em would make for a striking display. No criticisms from me there!

... but I don't like the stem or foot.

The stem looks too thick, but I think that this is more because of the shape of the upper transition than anything. Sometimes thick stems are good, the trick is to fool the eye into seeing them as thinner than they really are.

Instead of thinning the stem, I'd try reworking that transition. The curves on each side of the "step" in the transition don't match... there's a nice curve in the bottom of the bowl, the step and then the curve shoots off at a different angle to merge with the stem. What I would do is change the bottom curve so that it tends to curve in a bit from the step, matching the bottom of the bowl, and then curve out into the stem. More of an "S" shaped profile.

You'd be surprised at what a difference such a simple detail can make. If the stem still looks too thick then you can thin it down a bit, but once you have the transition right you yon't need to thin it down as much before it starts to look better.

(Geeze... I hope I'm making sense! :- )

With the long, "slow" curve of the bowl, the foot needs to be quite a bit wider. Modern fashion is for smaller feet, but if the foot was even, say, 1cm wider than the widest part of the bottom of the bowl, it would feel more balanced to the eye.

At the moment it looks like it's about to topple...

Overall I think the kids are right: you're onto a winner. You're just looking at it with a critical eye (as am I), all you need to do is tweak it's "weak points" and it'll come out nicely.

Std. Disclaimer: This is all purely my opinion and what I would try to do, of course!

I dunno Lubby. Could be a good start to a new line. I agree with Skew's suggestions. Also, I wonder if there is a way to may the colour more tranperant? Paint with stains? Or stained varnish, but still in primary colours? If it appeals to kids, maybe you should make things that kids would use? Liddes boxes or bowls to hold "thingies". or funny dolls. The goblet as it is nearly looks like the legs and dress of a lady with a mini skirt on. Make more I reckon and see what happens.

yes I agree with you mate I think the colours are to bright too but I was more trying the tape idea without it getting so in your face. It was great fun but I am not sure it does it for me

I think Skew said it all.
As far as the coloring, provided it is for kids I'm sure it'll get a lot of success (even with that big stem)

If we don't try different things , we won't know. This might lead you or others to something very appealing that otherwise might not have happened.
I like it.

Horses for courses, I guess. I'm not too keen about the trend toward painted turnings, but IIRC, a donated piece by Binh Pho fetched in the five figure$ at auction at the recent AAW symposium at Richmond VA USA. Go figure.

Now, if such a piece were done in segments, or some sort of multi-cut non-Celtic knot blank, I'd be drooling.
