Can someone help me with plans to turn up a standard lamp, measuring approximately 1.6 metres long with a round base or similar to that my lathe is only 1100 between centres, i can't find a plan anywhere.

I might be in danger of winning the Sybil Fawlty Award for Stating the Bleeding Obvious, but couldn't you turn the stand in sections of a length your lathe can handle, hiding the joins with beading?

Sorry - don't have a plan, but I'm sure a bit of creative Googling will throw up some ideas.

As tornatus said.
That is the way to do it. I have only done it once. The pedestal was done in 3 segments and the base done on the face plate very simple really!

Hi Boyd, I've seen it Done in a magazine can't remember which one,
you get two pieces of wood and cut a groove in the middle for cable to go through
this can be done with a router or bench saw, then you glue the two lengths together
make sure to fit a cord inside groove before clamping, remove cord after clamping
to clean up any excess glue, cut wood in two or three pieces and turn.hope this helps.
Happy turning.Tony.:?

In fact, you will find that flexing of the workpiece will make it very difficult to turn pieces much longer than 600mm without using some form of steady.
