Federation inspired arch way

Just finished this one today.
the clinet will be finishing so we're done at this point.

It's a surround that will go between his kitchen and lounge areas, in his 1900's house. Not strickly accurate to the time period, but he'll be pretty happy for years to come.

Curves are 2mm laminations formed with pressure between two pre cut forms Glued with Titebond-1

about 16 hours. Well thats what he's getting charged for anyway. It was a little longer, as it took three dry runs to clamp the tight curved Lamination up in the lower section. On the first attempt some clamps slipped and the pressure threw a 600mm clamp about metre away, collect my knuckle on the way. But left it over night and unclamped it and the timber stayed pretty much in place with out glue so it'll stay together now for sure.

We're getting a decent storm here now so i'll shut down and be back later on.

That is a good bend in the laminations.

Is it two pieces or just one?

Do you have a pic of it in the form with the clamps?
I can imagine it would have been tricky holding 20(?) slippery 2mm strips in place while you get all the clamps in place.

I can't promise on that last one... Paint i hope not... I think he will be using wipe on poly :)

I've not got a picture of it in the clamps, (the lamination that is) but I'll take a picture of the forms so you can get the idea. (won't be until monday though.)

He picked it up this morning and will be sending me pics when in place. so i should be able to add them when he sends them through.

The Lamination Scally was done as 2 seperate shapes, the top (gental curve) and the bottom (hockystick shape). They consisted of 18 - 100 x 2mm strips. Glued together in the forms and then ripped on the bandsaw to create two perfectly matching shapes, which where them spokeshaved to shape.

Still a bit of work to do with the spokeshave.

Especially completing the whole job in 16 hours.
