Being that I am really new to wood turning, the sharpining of the tools is getting confusing.
I have watched several videos, and some have the sharpening wheels rotating towards the tool, and others rotate away from the tool.
Which is the best way? :C

Its all fun!

Hi Terry....welcome to the forums.:2tsup:

Hmmmmm...in all my years of turning and sharpening on a grinder, its always been rotation toward the tool. Don't think I've ever seen one running the other way. It's possible that for carving tools it may be the other way.

Would be interested in seeing the videos you've been watching...could you please put up a link for them, especially for the one where rotation is away from the tool....thanks.

This maybe where I got the info for turning away from the tool.

General comments relative to the job in question, the sharpening of knives.

For wood turning tools its the other way around, with the exception with something like a Tormek system which is a honing operation as opposed to grinding. Honing is for the very fine edge. The classic example would be the old cut throat razor, such fine edges are not always suitable for wood turning although handy at times.
