Hey all,

I am active on another forum that specialises in photography.

For photographers, an unwelcome cost is framing.
A poster size image will require several hundreds of dollars of framing to present it well.

Photography is a specialised skill that requires specialised tools.... and making a great frame is a specialised skill that requires specialised tools...

I'm wondering if you lot know of workshops where photogs could go, to make frames (or meet people that could make them)...

.... or if any of you lot might be interested in bartering skills.
e.g. you use your skills for my benefit, I'll use my skills for yours

It occured to me that a few hours work by a photographer will cost at least $800 to $1500 (think weddings)... while one poster size frame would be at least $300.

In fact, the images itself probably represents years of experience, a few thousand $ of equipment, a few hours of work to capture the image and post-process it, and $40 to have it printed at poster size.

Also, an significant cost of an exhibition for a photographer, who is starting out and trying to build reputation, is the framing.... 20 images x $30 for small frames, $80 for medium, $300 for large.

I thought that a bit of networking might produce some work for forum members, or bartering for everyones benefit.

So, if you are interested, could you nominate yourself and where you live (which city and state) and I'll do the initial networking. Jsut a reply to the thread will be great, or a response to my email (my PM's are nearly full, so pm's are bad)

I'm thinking of a "list of framers"/ "list of photgraphers"....
.... and to get a photog forum "meet and greet" or outing to include members of this forum and visa versa.

Seeya! :D

Hey Clinton1,

Why don't you do your own framing, you can do a course with Frameco, (Best 1 day course I have ever done) and buy all the gear you need from them. You will not beleive how easy it is, You can start with about $350.00 and be doing professional framing jobs in no time, if you look them up at Frameco.com you can get packages from beginner to a pro setup for about 3 grand. If you are in WA I can do some for you I am setting up my new shed at the moment, but I still have use of the kitchen bench at this stage.
