Hi All,

Am finishing off my workbench drawing by adding dimensions to the diagram and all is going well until I was attempting to dimension from the centre of a hole directly to an edge. Basically I have selected the centre of the hole with one click (which comes up aqua in colour) then move the pointer down to an edge and click a second time but it doesn't seem to want to stick even though the dimensioned value shows up. I've attached a sketchup file with a simple box and a drilled hole to show you what I mean. In this example want to know how far in from the edges the origin of the circle is so that I can use this for marking out and drilling the hole.

Thanks in advance,

Martin.

Absent any SketchUp skills, but with a little from CAD (AutoCAD), if you can snap to the CENTRE of the hole, you may need to snap PERPENDICULAR to the line, to get the dimension. In CAD, the snap might be to a NEAR point on the line, which would be useless. SketchUP may have some automatic default snaps you can preset.

Hi Martin,

There is a ruby-plugin available at http://www.Smustard.com (http://www.smustard.com/) named centerpoint.rb.

It adds a construction point to the center of a selected entity or group.

Temporarily put some guides in the model to make dimensioning able to snap on.

Make the dimension and erase the guides. See the file.
