Does anybody out there know of the whereabouts of plans for a drafting board?

Forget the plans. The boards are a dime a dozen now. I bought 4 hydraulic ones (with single hydrolic pedestal base like a dentist's or barber's chair) a few years ago for $180. Gave 2 away sold one and made a fantastic carving table (with hydraulic height adjustment and infinite vertical/horizontal movement of the table via a quick action cam-lock lever) out of the 4th. They were all in excellent condition.

Most drafting etc. is now done on the computer with CAD and virtually 100% accuracy. So the big drafting co's have dumped thousands of boards. The government has literally dumped 10's of thousands of the things. Try at a place that sells 2nd hand office equipment. Even if you have to pay as much as $400 you are still getting a wonderful buy. My hydraulic one that became a carving table will support around 1/2 ton in weight Pretty good for a $45 investment.

I also have a drafting table that is utilised as a carving bench This has a 6' x4' top that is fully adjustable through a range of angles from horizontal to around 80 degrees I occasionally put the drafting machine on it but not very often.

By the way those 4 Boards came with everything including the machines the only thing missing was the 2 rulers.

Hate to stuff up a good project Johnno but why bother making one if they are so easy to buy. There must still be hundreds of them out there going for a song. Oh yes, the estimated new price for the ones I bought was around $3.000 each. The rulers alone for one machine cost $160 and they weren't the good ones.

Thanks Iain for pointing out the ambiguious nature of the question.

I would still like to access some plans if I can for a Draftboard the type you use to draw up plans with, not the type to send Oz's youth overseas to kill and be killed.

So If anyone can help I would be grateful.
Thanks Neil for that newsy post I was in the middle of posting this when your response came thru.
I have checked out the second hand marts and so far to no avail particularly here in Bunbury.I haven't tried Perth ....don't get up there that often.
Buying one would be the go ....bloody things are expensive as you say Neil.I Have a Cad programme installed which I have still to find my way around.I guess its the luxury of having a board out there in the room next to the workshop where you make adjustments to your plans as and where necessary.I'm trying to spoil myself much to 'er indoors chagrin!

T'was only humour Johhno and I couldn't resist http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/wink.gif
In Melbourne we have the Melbourne Trading Post which has about two pages of forthcoming auctions a lot of which indicate Government Surplus coming (want a virtually unused politician?) up, the Age is much the same. I am sure you would have something similar there. Also found this http://www.steers-pl.com.au/upcoming.html
may be of some assistance.

This may be of interest to those in Sydney. Cash Converters at Parramatta has a big, heavy hydraulic stand, draftong board A0 size and a drafting machine, for $400 but open to offers.

This is silly Johnno; you don't want plans for a drafting board, you want a drafting board for plans http://ubb.ubeaut.com.au/ubb/rolleyes.gif!

Thank you all for your humerous responses,it is a facet of this great BB that sets it apart from many others that I visit from time to time that are stilted in their comment.

Iain,I took your response in the vein it was intended and didn't mean to imply otherwise.

I guess a little of American spelling has crept into my literary response and I stand corrected of course,I used to pride myself on my spelling but as they say pride has a way of putting you in your place!!

If one thing though it has this forum moving with good input.
