The attached is my latest finished Salad Bowl. The rough turned blank was by courtesy of forum member Rowie which is believed to be Box elder?? (looking for confirmation).
The size is 270 x 110 deep, the sides & base are 10 mm and finished with several coats of Sunflower Oil.
Thanks to rsser for his input as to the final finish. What do you think Ern?

That looks really nice Mulgabill. I like the colour coming through. The shape and finish is excellent.:2tsup:

I got side tracked and I have rough turned three bowls and a plate this afternoon from green red gum. A couple of pieces are quite good but the other two including the salad bowl size already has cracks but I still like them. Putting a block 270 mm dia by 180 thick was a big ask for my woodfast mini:oo:

Happy new year,

Chipman

Nicely done.

I always find that the lighter woods are the hardest to finish properly - they seem to highlight any areas you've skimped sanding on. :- Came up well with the sunflower oil too! :2tsup:

Thanks Skew and others, I must admit I had my moments with shear scraping trying to get the final finish. The darker/softer grain did not help.
I thought that the Sunflower Oil may not bring out the little grain quilting but at certain angles it can be clearly seen.
I chose the Sunflower Oil finish to encourage the buyer to use it and therefore easily maintained it.

Nice piece Russell. Well done.

I've got some of Rowie's BE roughed out ... smaller pieces but one crotch and others with some interesting figure. Hope they come up as well as yours.

Well, a fella can dream

Fancy a 2nd lathe, with a swivel head.
