Hello,
I would really like to make a completely wooden clock from scratch. But I dont understand how clocks work.
I know there are plans around for such clocks. But could anyone assist me to get information where I could learn what components are necessary to build one without plans?
Thank you
Dod

I realise that this is not what you are after but you make want to look anyway, wooden clock plans. http://www.clockplans.com/
And just a bit of trivia from a clock collector, there is no such thing as a granfather clock, it is called a long case clock and was designed to accommodate the long pendulum which, at the prescribed length at sea level takes precisely one second to swing through the arc thus offering relatively accurate timekeeping.

There is an article in The Australian Woodworker (Dec.issue) that might interest you. It also shows a jig for cutting the teeth of wooden clock wheels and pinions

Thanks Hook,
yes I did read that one. Even tried to find the book referenced and the plan from the UK. But no success.
What I would really like is to fully understand is how clocks work. This way I could set about making a clock of my own design. I've searched the internet for information on how clocks, but with no success either.

Gooday.

Dod, this link may help too. It is a BB that seems to have a lot of discussion of clock gears on it.
