Blast Gate

Here is a blast gate I made from 100mm sewer pipe.
I cut the slot on the drop saw, the saw blade retainer washer set the depth of cut.
I just cut once, then moved the pipe enough to allow the mdf board to fit, and cut again.
I am going to redo my workshop, and want to plumb in the DC, so I will need a few blast gates.
I will use duct tape to secure them to the machines.

Allan, as one who has been down that track I should warn you about the danger of doing that. "It is very addictive." :D :D :D :D

You will want to reorganise all your machinery to reduce duct runs, place your biggest dust producers closest to the D/C and place the D/C outside the shed in a leanto. Next you will reorganize all your shelving, rebuild tool racks to place the tool needed for a machine close by and if necessary duplicate them for use on other machines. And this is only the start. Next you will build in the ducting to get more space, paint the lot, and start making jigs etc to make things easier.

Before you know it a year or so has passed. But it is enjoyable to work in your improved shop. After all this next is the finishing shed. :D

I have just gained another 50% of shed, I bought my wife a shed all of her own so when she moves all her, mmm cr&p ...eeerrr treasure out of MY shed I will have a shed that is 4.5x12M all to my self.

Yes, Peter, before you know it another precious year has passed and the only thing made was another thing to make a thing. :D :D :D

Of course, I am beginning to fall into the same trap. See my post in Woodworking Pics re another jewellery box that I made using a shop-built jig of all things. :rolleyes:

But what an enjoyable year it was. The skills I learned, the jigs I built made it the most productive workshop year yet even though I made no furniture. The tools and jigs I built will make future work safer and easier and has saved a lot of money and a lot more are planned. If only I had more time.

The connection of all machines to the D/C and the conversion of the Triton dust bucket into a mini cyclone has and will benefit my health for many years to come as well as helping others by being able to share these improvement.

After all if the journey is enjoyable the time is well spent.

Right on, Peter! Nothing more need be said to make your case. After all, what other reason do we work with wood than to make the time we pass more enjoyable for ourselves, and hopefully along the way for others as well.
