I bought a puzzle box like the ones in the top photo in Hakone, They had some bigger ones, as well as some furniture (over)done the same way. Daughter bought an amazing intarsia dragon there.
There is a stretch of shops all selling Hakone ware (like the boxes) and intarsia.
