Not fine woodwork, neighh, and definitely not fine wood. This is a batch of feed storage bins for hay burners that I knocked out this weekend. Have been making these up to order for the last 4 or 5 years I guess, for a bit of income. Started out with 15mm CD structural ply, now down to 12mm which costs more than the 15mm used to:(( And sometimes the quality is very variable. Had to take some back because the plies blew apart, so much for structural:((. Nothing flash in the construction, just 40mm chipboard screws and pva.
Clients like em though because they're vermin proof and make better use of the space than drums do.
Anyway, I better hoof it and deliver these.

Cheers
Michael

They look real nice. They will take up less room then bins and the clients should be more organized.

Well done.

Don's sell yourself short, even these types of jobs take a certain amount of skill to make work.. They look very neat for feed bins.

It may not be fine woodwork but it's productive woodwork just the same.

You can't ask for better proof than money coming in. :)

hmmm, you must have read the 40mm screws as 40mins work:? Wish it were so:)
Thanks for the feedback everyone, I suppose any woodwork that brings in money is good woodwork.
I did a breakdown on the time if someone is interested.

2hrs to cut components for the three boxes (9 sheets of ply)
9hrs to assemble 3 boxes
$380 ply
$30 hinges,handles,fixtures,rope,glue.
$? three deliveries maybe 2 hrs.
$1050 gross
$640 net
~$50/hr which is about what I like to make.

Only wish I could get more orders.:)

Cheers
Michael

How much to ship a few of these to the States? Actually they look very handy and I thank you for the pictures. I hope you wont mind if I 'borrow' your excellent idea? I've got six of the dang hay burners myself and currently use 35 gallon plastic trash cans to store feed. Here's a shot of SWMBO showing one of her geldings. He's a registered Oldenberg and is about six years old in this shot. His name is Gallahad Threepwood.

Hi Ciscokid,
Seeing's you're over there, I'll email you an copy of my cutting scheme for a headstart. The top of them also make a very convenient shelf for all their lotions, potions, supplements, additives, tonics, sprays, herbs... ..............
................medications, balms, salves, oils, ..................moisturisers........
You know what I'm talking about.:;

Oh well might as well swap a photo of SWMBO's warmblood, Caritza, doing what warmbloods do best... She's seven now.

Cheers

That's a fine looking animal. Yep, that's what they do alright, eat. I would appreciate that cutting scheme. Might save me from wasting material. Thanks! :)

Hi Did, you make the boxes to take a certain bag size of feed or just random

The big sections hold a chaff bag, the smaller ones hold one or two 20kg hard feed bags. So, no, not randomly done.

I was recently talking to a Bariatric Surgeon (Overweight type surgery) and I commented on how clever I thought his ilk were being able to open people up and fix bits of them. I had also mentioned the 9m x 6m pergola I had built in the back yard. He in turn surprised me be saying how clever he thought people like me were who could build things like pergolas and the like (read horse feed bins!). I guess we can easily underestimate the things we do.

They do look like a very well thought out units mic-d I was interested to see the time break down you provided. Even jobs that aren't so much for looks take time too!

Well done.
